[Medium]
This is a commonly missed step by the majority of deck builders. Pressure treated wood is only protected around its outside, once cut the inside becomes exposed and as vulnerable to rot as untreated pine. After pressure treated wood is cut, the exposed wood must be treated to deter rotting. Another common misconception about pressure treated wood is that it doesn't rot. Unfortunately, the toxic chemicals that protect the wood will eventually leach out with water (rain) and the wood will become vulnerable to rot. Building in a way that minimizes pressure treated wood's exposure not only looks better but helps it last longer. |
